===== How to install Agelong Tree 6.* on a USB drive =====

To correctly install Agelong Tree 6 on a portable USB disk, follow these steps:

1. Prepare a portable USB disk of a suitable volume. We recommend to use SSD disks of good quality, by well-known brands (Kingston, Transcend, Netac, SanDisk, Samsung, Silicon Power), standard USB 3.0 or higher.  The choice of the disk volume depends on the number of photos and videos that you plan to add into the application, the rest of the data does not take up much space. One modern photograph weighs an average of about 10 Mb, which means that about 100 photos can be recorded on a 1 Gb drive. We recommend to use disks 32 Gb or bigger. 

If you plan to use the app from the USB disk on different systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), use the exFAT file system on your disk.

2. Download the application for your system, launch it and install the app to your portable disk according to the instructions for your system:  [[en:install_windows|Windows]], [[en:install_linux|Linux]] or [[en:install_macos|macOS]]. During the installation select the type of installation: "Installation on portable USB disk".

3. After the installation is complete, start the program from your USB disk, click menu ''Help'' - ''Activation'' and enter your activation code.

4. If you have already created a tree in a free version installed on your computer, you need to transfer the created data file and its documents folder to the portable disk, in order to have the data on your portable disk. How to do: start Agelong Tree 6 from your portable disk, click menu ''File'' - ''Open'' and choose the file that you created in the free version, by default it is stored in My Family folder in Documents. Your data file will open. Save it to the disk now: click ''File'' menu -- ''Save as'', go to the portable USB disk and enter e new name for the file. \\
Do not save the file inside Agelong Tree 6 folder. It is allowed to save the data file in the root folder of the disk or to create a separate folder for data files.\\
**Do not click the datafile *.adtb** -- it will lead to launching Agelong Tree from your computer, not from USD disk.\\

**Always agree to create a backup copy** when the application suggests it. Do not keep the backup copy of the data file on the same portable USB disk, we recommend to keep it in a cloud or another drive.\\

A portable USB disk with installed application can be connected to other computers, launch Agelong Tree from the disk and work in the app. During the work with the app the USB disk must stay connected to the computer. Do not disconnect the USB disk until you have finished the work, have saved the data file and the backup copy. Always use ''Eject'' before disconnecting the disk.
