User Tools

Program options

Program options window (Options menu – Program options) contains all general settings for the program.

Program options window

The tab Persons contains settings for a person's full name. You can change the order of full name parts, add a custom field to the full name.

Female surname differs from male's and Middle name depends on father’s first name checkboxes are applied when creating a new person. For example, when you create a son to a woman, and the father of this son is not known, Agelong Tree leaves the son's surname empty if Female surname differs from male's is checked. Agelong Tree puts the mother's surname if the option is not checked. If Middle name depends on father’s first name is checked, it works like this: when you create a son or a daughter, Agelong Tree looks for persons of the same sex whose father has the same name and if it finds one, his/her middle name is used as an example of the middle name for the person that is being created. Surnames and middle names can be corrected manually if necessary. Abbreviate relation degree names allows to show long degree names as shortened in the tree and in the lineage list: for example, great(4)grandson instead of great-great-great-great-grandson.

Tab Dates contains settings of the date format. It is possible to set the order for date parts, for example DD MM YYYY, or YYYY MM DD, to choose a separator for a date, such as dot, dash, slash, and to set how to display Julian dates (the Old Style Calendar dates): it is possible to show only Julian dates, to show Julian dates plus Grigorian, or to show Grigorian dates plus Julian dates. When you enter a Julian date, use the Date editor in the person's edit window. The checkbox Abbreviate displays the shortened variant of the date:
“about”, “calculated” and “estimated” are replaced by “~”,
“before” is replaced by “<”,
“after” is replaced by “>”,
“from” is replaced by “≥”,
“to” is replaced by “≤”,
“between <date1> and <date2>” is replaced by “<date1>..<date2>”,
“<date1> or <date2>” is replaced by “<date1>/<date2>“

The Places tab contains settings of places format. It is possible to choose a place parts order: from country to street address, or from street address to country. It is possible to choose the maps provider. It is possible to use the short names of places in all reports, if the short name is set in a place edit window. Clear maps cache clears the local cache that is used for displaying maps inside Agelong Tree and for search on maps.

The checkbox Extras allows to choose a font size for the program interface, to select an action for double-click on a object in main tables and in the tree: open information window/open edit window.
The option Search exact phrase allows you to set the method of text search in tables and in the family tree.
The option Select e destination folder when creating a document works when you create a new document. If it is checked, there appears a dialogue box offering to create/pick a folder for the file which is used to create the document. If it is not checked, the file is copied directly to the documents folder.
When the option Set the added photo as a profile one if there is no profile photo is on, the photo that is being added will be set as a profile photo of the object (a person, an event, etc) if the main photo is not set yet.
If the option Create backup files is ticked, Agelong Tree suggests creating an archived backup copy of the data after a sufficient number of changes have been done: after 30 changes have been made and at least 1 day has passed since the previous copy.
Clear the cache clears all Agelong Tree local cache, except for local program settings.
